12) Walt Disney’s Favorite
The big man behind the current Disney empire is, of course, Walt Disney. His favorite scene? Cinderella’s transformation. In this beautiful animation she changes from kitchen slippers to glamorous princess.
13) Rapunzel has the scoop
Before Rapunzel, all the Disney princesses were drawn rather than animated. The long-haired heroine was Disney’s first big leap into the world of 3D animation.
14) The kiss
Jasmine was already having a hard time: she’s only fifteen, and then an old man with bad intentions and magical powers started coming after her! Therefore, she is the only one who shares a kiss with the main villain of the film. Well, she couldn’t do much against Jafar…
15) Belle or Oz?
Princess Belle wears a blue dress. No coincidence: she is inspired by Dorothy, the main character from The Wizard of Oz.
16) Sleeping Beauty stays out of the picture
Of all the princesses so far, Sleeping Beauty has the least amount of screen time. In her film she can only be admired for eighteen minutes. For the rest of the film she was in a deep magical sleep anyway.
17) Non-human Princess
You may not realize it, but Ariel is the only princess who was not born as a human. Half fish, half human, but fully mermaid. That sure is different.
18) Hairy Job
Merida has been blessed with a big head of red curls. Incredibly beautiful and incredibly Scottish of course. But it’s such a painstaking job to animate those curls properly! The makers worked on this for no less than three years.
19) Mulan is not a princess
Even though she is invariably on the list of official Disney princesses: Mulan is not actually a princess. All other famous leading ladies are born princesses or end up in princess marriages, but not Mulan . In Mulan II she marries General Li Shang . So, whichever way you look at it, royal blood is not involved in this.
20) Adriana Caselotti
Who? It’s no wonder you don’t know this name. Yet she deserves the same spotlight as actresses Kristen Bell (Anna from Frozen), Idina Menzel (Elsa from Frozen) and Mandy Moore (Rapunzel). Caselotti actually recorded the voice of Snow White. It’s no surprise that you don’t know her name. She was paid less than a thousand dollars for her contribution. In addition, she was banned by Disney from taking on other roles. What a contrast to the famous voice actresses of later Disney movies!
21) Anna and Elsa are missing
Interesting: despite the huge success of their movies, Anna and Elsa from Frozen are not official Disney princesses. What? You don’t believe it, but it’s true. The two sisters are Disney heroines, but they are not on the list of the thirteen official Disney princesses.
22) List full of stars
Well, Anna and Elsa may be missing from the list, but in the end there are a total of thirteen official Disney princesses. In order from first to last, these are Snow White, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Ariel, Belle, Jasmine, Pocahontas, Mulan, Tiana, Rapunzel, Merida, Moana, and Raya. Previously, Tinkerbell, Jane Porter (from Tarzan) and Esmeralda (from The Hunchback of Notre Dame) also featured on this list, but they lost their status as official princesses for various reasons.
And, how many of these things did you already know?
