Eventually, Emily agreed, placing her faith in the medical professionals’ expertise. Despite this, uncertainty lingered. She felt as though she and her family were left in the dark about the reasons for her surgery. With her agreement to an operation, the enormity of the situation and her lack of knowledge about it began to unnerve her.
But much time to think about it wasn’t there. The moment Emily completed the consent form, the doctors darted out to prepare an operating room. It felt like just a few seconds before they were back and started to prepare Emily for the operation. David was instructed to wait outside.
There was just enough time for a quick kiss goodbye before they whisked Emily away. Hopefully this wasn’t goodbye forever…
