Nerve-wracking moments
Emma couldn’t believe what just happened. She had called the police and told them she was in danger. In danger because of her husband. Her husband who she has loved for so many years. The police officer told her they could see her address and they were coming over immediately. Emma panicked a little bit and sweat drops started to appear on her forehead. She didn’t want to hang up the phone and face Daniël, so she was just mumbling random words to pretend she was still talking to her mother.
A few moments later, sirens could be heard in the distance. At first, Daniël didn’t notice anything but after a while, she saw him looking at her with a penetrating gaze. He looked at the sweat on her forehead and her trembling lips and she knew right away that he knew. When the sirens got closer and they could see the police car stop in front of their house, he looked at her and whispered: “What have you done?”. Then he got up and decided to run for it. Before Emma could grasp what just happened, he was already gone and ran out of the backdoor.
