Lumberjacks find a bizarre creature in a hollow tree

High in the tree

The beast had shown tremendous stamina. Eventually, it climbed to a height of 8.5 meters. Unfortunately, the beast could not find the exit and died there. The carcass’s smell was drawn up by a so-called ‘chimney effect’, thus attracting few insects or other organisms. The body had thus remained reasonably intact.

The hollow tree was dry inside, due to the moisture-absorbing property of the chestnut tree. This, in combination with the tree’s tannic acid, caused the animal’s skin to harden. It became some kind of petrified mummy. The poor beast had fought for his life but had died high in the tree. The spectators felt very sorry for the animal. In the end, they even gave it a name.
