“It was impossible for me to announce my return. My wife, or well, ex-wife, looked so happy… And I had done some terrible things during the war. She was better off without me. So I decided to do what they expected me to do: stay dead. I took a few odd jobs here and there, but I had seen too much to keep them. I turned to alcohol and look where I ended up”.
