- Greta skipped school to start a movement
In 2018, Greta Thunberg, a Swedish environmental activist, decided to ditch school in order to start a protest outside the Swedish parliament building. This then 15-year-old girl sat on the steps of the building with a sign that read “Skolstrejk för klimatet,” which translates to “School strike for climate,” to raise awareness about the issue of climate change and the lack of action being taken by political leaders to address it.
But little did she know, her one-person protest would quickly gain attention and support. She would soon be joined by other rebellious students from all across Sweden who also wanted to take a stand on the issue. Thunberg’s movement, known as “Fridays for Future,” has since grown into a global phenomenon, with students in countries all over the world participating in strikes and protests to demand action on climate change. Thunberg has become a powerful voice for environmentalism and has inspired people of all ages to take action and make a difference in the fight against climate change.
