“Grandpa, why did you do this?” she asked, her voice shaking with emotion. “I thought you were dead. I thought I had lost you forever.”
Her grandfather’s smile faltered, and he looked at her with a mix of sadness and pride. “I’m sorry, Olivia, for the pain and confusion I caused you. But I had to do this in order to teach you a lesson. You were so focused on the money you would inherit that you didn’t see the value of the lessons I was trying to teach you. I wanted to show you that there are more important things in life than money and possessions. I wanted to help you grow and become the strong, independent woman I know you can be. And I’m so proud of how far you’ve come.”
