9. The Beetle
This is the SNECMA Coléoptère, which means “beetle” in French. There was only ever one Beetle built. It was meant to take off and land vertically, like a VTOL, so that it wouldn’t require much space. It was seen as a very experimental aircraft, with it having no wings. Unfortunately the sole prototype was destroyed during its ninth flight. Production of a second Beetle was never started.
