3. The bit at each end of your shoelace is called an ‘Aglet’
Did you ever stop to wonder if this part of your shoelace had an actual name? Well, it does. It’s called an ‘aglet’. It keeps the fibers of the cord or lace from unraveling. Today, the clear plastic aglets on the end of shoelaces are put there by special machines. The machines wrap plastic tape around the end of new shoelaces and use heat or chemicals to melt the plastic onto the shoelace and bond the plastic to itself.
