He wasn’t ready for that, not yet. So there he stood, his request ignored as the officers quickly went back to their discussion. Jason was left wondering what to do next. He stared at the officers who had seemed to have forgotten about him, just like that.
His gaze shifted back to Calvin. Their eyes met briefly, and Jason thought he saw a hint of something in the officer’s look – guilt, awareness, or maybe it was just his hopeful imagination. Almost as quickly as their eyes met, Calvin averted his gaze and delved back into the conversation with the other officers, effectively cutting off any chance for Jason to speak with him. At least, for the moment.
