Just as I was about to leave, I heard footsteps behind me. Dave had run after me, his expression filled with anger. “Emma, wait,” he called out, his voice firm. “I overheard what Mark said. He’s completely out of line. I can’t believe he’d do this. I should have known, I should have questioned him earlier.”
I turned to face him, tears welling in my eyes. “I don’t know what to do anymore, Dave. He left. He can’t even accept his own child.”
“I’m sorry, Emma. I should have been more supportive,” Dave said, his voice soft but full of conviction. “You don’t deserve this. I want to help. I’m here for you, both of you. You shouldn’t have to face this alone.”
