With these tips your car battery will last much longer

Make sure the battery doesn’t get too hot or too cold

Not everyone has the luxury of always being able to put their car in a garage, but if you do; make good use of it. It can really help out your car battery during the freezing days of winter or the very hot temperatures of summer. Your battery can deal with most temperatures, but the heat can cause the battery fluid to evaporate, which can end up being problematic when it comes to charging the battery. In turn, cold temperatures can cause the battery to lose their charge.

Keep your battery clean

It’s important to put up the hood of your car once in a while and take a good look at the battery. Check the battery for signs of corrosion; you can recognise this by white powder appearing around the clamps of the battery. If you find this on yours, you can clean it with water and baking soda and a non-metallic brush. Important note: corrosion is often a sign that your battery needs to be replaced. However, by making sure you keep the battery clean, you might be able to extend its life for a little bit longer. You might want to start saving up for that new battery at this point, though.

Invest in a battery maintainer

You can hook up a battery maintainer to your car battery and it will make sure the battery will charge or keep its charge. This will prevent your battery from losing its charge. A battery maintainer is a good investment for people who don’t use their car very often. If your car is idle for a long time, the battery can lose its charge – a battery maintainer will prevent this from happening, though.
