What you need:
- Your hands! (and optionally, tweezers)
- A bit of soap, lip balm, or petroleum jelly (optional)
This is what you need to do:
First, don’t force the zipper! Forcing it can tear the fabric or damage the zipper teeth. Instead, follow these steps:
- Tilt the zipper: Hold the zipper slider and gently tilt it in the direction opposite to where the fabric is caught. This relieves some pressure and makes it easier to loosen.
- Pull the fabric: At the same time, gently pull the fabric that’s stuck away from the zipper. Move slowly to avoid tearing the material.
- If the zipper is still stuck, try applying a tiny bit of soap, lip balm, or petroleum jelly to the zipper teeth near the jam. This will act as a lubricant and help the zipper glide more easily.
- Gently move the zipper back and forth: With the fabric pulled to one side and the zipper tilted, carefully wiggle the zipper back and forth until it starts moving again.
- If needed, use a pair of tweezers to pull out any threads that are tightly caught.
Important Note: Be patient and move slowly to prevent damaging the zipper or fabric. Once the zipper is free, wipe off any lubricant to avoid staining the fabric. This method will unjam the zipper safely and save your favorite clothes or bag!
