3. Always separate colours from whites
Of course, this is a pretty obvious one, but it also does really make a difference, so it’s worth mentioning again. You can also choose to use special dye-grabbing cloths to make even more sure that no loose dye gets into your white clothes.
4. Be precise when measuring detergent
Too much or too little detergent can turn fabrics grey and dingy. That’s because too much foam might retain the dirt, which means stains and dirt can get stuck. In other words: always follow the instructions on the detergent packaging.
5. Don’t overload the washing machine
We know it’s tempting to add those extra two shirts to the machine when there’s a little bit of room left, but you’re better off not doing this. Clothes need to circulate to become clean. When you fill the machine to the top, there’s not enough room for the detergent to come into contact with all of the clothes and their stains and there’s no way they’ll end up completely clean.
6. Use hot water
The hotter the water, the more bacteria you’re killing. Higher temperatures also remove more filth, which means your white clothes will stay white for much longer. However, to prevent shrinkage or damage to your clothes, you should always first check the care label to see what’s the maximum temperature you can wash them on.
7. Dry clothes as instructed by the label
Over-drying will make your clothes look worn after a while, which is why you should always (here it is again) check the care label before using the dryer. Another option would be to use the automatic drying cycle. This will make sure the dryer stops drying once it’s noticed the clothes are dry, and not when the time is up.
8. Don’t forget other items
This means that you can also wash your white bed linen and soft white towels with these methods. Again, always check the care label to be sure of how to wash these items. This way, not only will your white clothes remain bright, but the other white items in your house will as well!
