Don’t throw away old pillow cases; they can be very handy!
You don’t lose them like you do with socks, but nevertheless old pillow cases often end up sad and alone in your closet. Maybe they’ve lost their colour or you no longer own the sheets that go with them. Before you know it you’ve got a stack of pillow cases you never use, because you only use those that go with a set. Don’t throw away these cases, though, because you can very easily repurpose them!
1. Cleaning
An old pillow case is the perfect cleaning attribute. Cut it open and then halve it and you already have yourself two cleaning rags. The soft fabric is well-suited for dusting, polishing the rims on your bike or car or using it as an old rag when you’re painting around the house.
2. Laundry bags
You should actually always wash your underwear in a laundry bag. Socks stay together with their siblings if you was them together in a laundry bag as well. There’s no need to buy expensive laundry bags when you can also use old pillow cases, though. Put your socks and your underwear inside a pillow case and tie it shut with a hair tie. That way, the clothes won’t get damaged when they’re being washed in the washing machine and you won’t lose any socks anymore. You can also use this trick to wash your sneakers: put them in a pillow case and then wash them in the washing machine. You’ll be protecting both your shoes and the machine.
3. Apron
Cut three holes in a pillow case and get your child to wear it when they’re painting, drawing or making crafts. You won’t have to worry about their clothes getting dirty and they will be able to move freely without thinking about their clothes.
4. Pet bed
Does your cat (or dog) have a favourite spot to lie down in? Put down an old pillow case in this spot or put it around the pillow your pet loves most. This way you can keep the spot clean by regularly washing the pillow case, and your pet can still enjoy their favourite spot.
5. Packing
Are you moving or going on holiday? Use old pillow cases to wrap fragile stuff in when you’re packing. This will save you money on packing material and it is much more environmentally friendly as well. If you’re going on holiday, you can neatly fold your clothes and put them in pillow cases so they stay neat and together in your suitcase. This is also a handy way to separate your clean clothes from your dirty clothes on the way home.
