Skipping Work for a Holiday, Woman Encounters an Unforeseen Surprise on the Plane

Her boss, the very one she’d just lied to about being sick, was here, on this very flight. The same man she’d worked under for years, the same one she had just tricked into giving her time off. Her mind raced. What if he was on the same vacation? What if he already knew she was lying and was here to catch her in the act? She suddenly felt exposed, like a criminal waiting to be caught.

Her palms began to sweat as she ducked behind her magazine, hoping—praying—that he wouldn’t see her.  The man—Mr. Green, or his doppelgänger—walked down the aisle, his eyes scanning the rows. Noah’s heart pounded in her chest, so loudly she was sure everyone around her could hear it. His gaze seemed to linger near her row, and she shrank lower into her seat, using the magazine as a shield. Was he looking for her? Did he already suspect she was faking her illness?
