Insulating your windows is super easy!
Autumn has definitely started now; it’s cold, it’s windy and there are pretty red leaves everywhere. Autumn also means we can turn on the heater again and we can snuggle up on the sofa with a blanket and a mug of tea.
Double glazed or single glazed
That’s all very nice, but only if you have double glazed windows. Double glazing is what ensures better insulation for your house, since the double layers of glass make sure the warmth cannot conducted outside. Single glazed windows, however, do conduct the warmth outside via the window. The result: your heater is on full blast, you’re using up loads of energy, and your house remains as cold as ice. Unfortunately, replacing single panes with double panes is a pretty expensive business and can’t be done for every house. Luckily, there’s a super cheap alternative! And you can do it all by yourself!
The trick
The miracle product you need for a warm home is bubble wrap! All you need is loads of bubble wrap, a ruler, and a spray bottle with water, some soap and a bit of bleach. Measure your windows and cut the bubble wrap to the right size. Use the spray bottle to dampen the windows and press the bubble wrap onto the windows. You’ll notice that the bubble wrap causes the cold air to stay outside and the warm air to stay inside! If all goes well, it will stay on for the entire season. Pretty neat trick, right?
