Do not ignore these symptoms!
When we don’t feel comfortable, we often blame our physical complaints on a cold, the flu or an inevitable consequence of getting older. However, they can also mean something completely different!
Of course, normally there’s no cause for panic, but some symptoms are simply not to be ignored. They might even indicate a thyroid disease. The thyroid gland is very small but plays a major role in our bodies. It’s responsible for the functioning of metabolic processes and even affects the growth process. If the thyroid gland works either too fast or too slow, it can cause severe problems. A thyroid disorder can cause a lot of symptoms:
- Sadness or depression: If your thyroid gland does not function properly, your mood can take a huge hit. This means you might experience insomnia, feel extremely tired, depressed or futile.
- Constipation: Since your thyroid gland affects metabolic processes, you can experience constipation, unexplained weight loss or gain, diarrhea, severe stomach ache or constant hunger.
- Heart disorders: The thyroid gland affects your heart rhythm and heart rate. Do you have heart problems and does nothing seem to help? Well, it might be due to a problem with your thyroid gland.
- Edema: A very important symptom of a disordered thyroid is an abnormal accumulation of fluid. This may lead to a swollen gland, a swollen face or bulging eyes.
Do you recognise one of the symptoms mentioned above? Then we recommend requesting a thyroid examination with your doctor as soon as possible.
