If you peel off the flakes of burnt skin from your body, you run the risk of causing scars. Your skin doesn’t peel at the same speed all over your body, so that means you can damage your skin if you peel it off prematurely. Plus, the slow peeling of your skin is a natural way for it to remove dead skin cells. This process shouldn’t be sped up or disrupted. Just leave it be, so your skin will come back nice and smooth, like before that nasty sunburn.
Skin cancer
Another thing to remember: the skin flakes are a very clear sign that you should sunscreen more diligently. You can look at a sunburn as punishment and a reminder for next time. We do hope you’ll remember next time because no one likes being sunburnt. It’s painful and it brings long term risks with it. For example, did you know being sunburnt regularly can eventually lead to a nasty form of melanoma (skin cancer)? Using sunscreen is important!
