Some supplements might interact with one another
When you’re low on vitamins or nutrients, it feels like a good idea to take supplements to replenish the deficiency with some supplements. But did you now that there are some vitamins that shouldn’t be mixed? Find out more below.
Vitamin C and Copper
Both are essential for your body and it is important to get plenty of vitamin C and copper. But it might not be wise to take the two in supplement form without consulting your doctor first. Why? Because your vitamin C intake might actually reduce the amount of copper your body absorbs. That means that taking these two supplements together might have a negative effect on your health. So, if you are thinking of mixing these two vitamins; first consult your health care provider!
Magnesium and Calcium
Again, both of these are important for different kinds of bodily functions. But taking extra in the form of supplements, might require some medical counsel first. If you increase the amount of calcium you take by adding supplements to your diet, you might decrease the absorption of magnesium. And lower amounts of magnesium in your body might result in a higher risk of heart disease, diabetes and osteoporosis. So, again, always consult your health care provider before taking and mixing vitamin supplements.
Iron and Green Tea
Even though green tea might not officially be considered a vitamin supplement, it is important to consider the effect that green tea might have on other processes in your body. Especially when you’re taking iron supplements. When you drink a lot of green tea, it can reduce the absorption of the iron and an iron-deficiency can have several negative effects on your health. Make sure you know whether or not it is save for you to take iron supplements and drink green tea during the day.
Medication
Certain vitamin supplements can also interact with medication that you’re taking. And that means that by trying to up your vitamin intake to feel better, you could actually negatively impact the effect of the medication you’re taking. That is why we strongly advice to always consult a medical professional before taking vitamin supplements. Especially when you’re already taking medication.
