Infected
Veterinarian Dominique Gevaert explained to HLN in what other ways your pet can get infected with the disease: “Dogs can get the disease through eating snails that have been infected with the lungworm. These snails can accidentally end up inside your dog, for example when the dog eats grass or drinks water outside. Even licking the slime trail left behind by a snail can be dangerous.”
Symptoms
In Belgium, research has been done into this disease already. This research showed that five per cent of all dogs are contaminated with lungworm disease. The symptoms are coughing, fatigue and bleeding. However, only 3.6 per cent of the dogs showed the symptoms. Unfortunately, the disease can be fatal to dogs.
Vet
Do you suspect that your dog might be sick? Then you should contact your vet. It’s important to diagnose this illness as quickly as possible. Important to note is that this disease isn’t dangerous to people.
