Eating healthy
A healthy heart keeps your brain in shape. Food that is healthy for your heart therefore also plays a role in keeping your brain healthy. The rules are simple: avoid salt, saturated fats, and processed foods, opt instead for vegetables, fruits, whole wheat products, nuts, legumes, fish, and low-fat meats. It’s also best to avoid alcohol as much as possible to keep your heart and mind in top condition.
Exercise
A brisk walk from time to time can work wonders for your health. Exercising frequently and eating healthy bring down the risk of age-related ailments immensely, including dementia.
Cognitive stimulation
Do you ever feel like you’re not putting your memory to good use? Then it’s probably a good idea to start cognitive stimulation therapy. It’s a mouthful, but this therapy offers easy exercises for your memory and concentration. These are often done in a group setting. Together you will, for example, solve puzzles, garden, talk about your interests, bake – all sorts of activities that stimulate your brain and therefore avoid feelings of loneliness.
