These are some things you should never put in the microwave

Keep these foods out of your microwave!

We love our microwave! It is so easy to quickly heat up foods and enjoy last nights leftovers the next day. But not everything is supposed to go in the microwave. Because some foods or items might actually explode – or worse.

Eggs

If you are someone who pre-boils their eggs, you probably have wondered whether you could reheat the egg, just to make it a little warmer. Spoiler alert: you can’t. If you reheat an egg (peeled or in its shell) it will explode. That will create chaos in your microwave or home, and it may even burn you. If you cut the egg up in four pieces, you will be able to reheat it.

Water

If you’re feeling impatient and you don’t want to wait for your water to boil in your kettle, you might have tried to zap your cup of water. But if you heat your water in the microwave, you risk another explosion. The water can become too hot and that can result in burns too. So, it might be better to stick with the kettle.

Chili Peppers

Peppers are spicy. And when you heat your peppers in the microwave, the capsaicin in the pepper (what makes them spicy) will vaporize into the air. When you open the microwave, that spicy, hot air will come out and could irritate your nose, eyes, throat, etc. So, you might just want to roast or grill those peppers instead.

Takeout containers

If you have last nights leftovers in a styrofoam packaging or a takeout container with handles, you might want to take the food out of the container and reheat it one that is save to use. When you reheat styrofoam, harmful chemicals are released. And takeout containers with handles have metals in them that could cause a fire. Always check if your container is microwave safe (it says so on the box).

Empty

Never start the microwave without any food in it. When you turn the appliance on without any food in it, it could cause a fire or damage your machine.
