You’ll never throw out your rice water again!
After cooking rice, nine out of ten people throw out the rice water. That’s a real pity, as it turns out. You can use the water you’ve cooked your rice in for a ton of different things! Next time you’re cooking rice, pour the water into a jar or bowl instead of pouring it down the drain. You won’t regret it!
Instead of wasting it, you can give the rice water another purpose.
Beauty product
In Asia, they have known this for generations already, but we’re starting to wake up to it in Europe as well: throwing out your rice water is a waste. That’s because you can very easily use it as a beauty product. The water you’ve cooked your rice in contains a lot of antioxidants, minerals and vitamins B and E. It also contains something called pitera. This is a substance that’s said to combat the ageing of your skin. You can also use rice water as shampoo; it supposedly helps to make sure you get fewer grey hairs. Whether this really works remains to be seen, of course, but there’s no harm in trying, right?
Skin
Rice water is also very suitable to use as a cleansing product for your skin. Put a little bit of the water onto a cotton pad and dab your skin with this. The vitamin B in the water will stimulate the growth of new skin cells and it’ll also shrink your pores. Little lines in your face will fade and you’ll have beautifully smooth skin. If those aren’t great reasons to not throw away the water you’ve cooked your rice in, we don’t what is!
