Cut in half
First cut the ends of your onion and then cut the onion in half lengthwise. This way, it is much easier to find and grip the outer layer of the onion. Moreover, it also breaks down less quickly. Did you grip the layer? Then you often remove it in one smooth motion. It also easier to grip the layer again when it does break off. Ideal!
Prevent crying
When you have peeled the onion, you will obviously switch to slicing it. In no time, the tears dribble down your cheeks, because your eyes sting when the juices are released from the onion. There are many tips on the internet on how to avoid this. One way that actually works is putting your onion in the freezer beforehand. It doesn’t have to be very long, just a few minutes. The component that makes your eyes sting, is released less quickly when the onion is frozen.
