The anonymous winner donated the money to a charity in South Carolina

Winning a huge amount of money seems like everyone’s dream. But to one South Carolina resident, winning the staggering amount of $150,000 in the South Carolina Powerball meant an opportunity to help others. And that is why he decided to donate the prize to a local charity.

Powerball

Powerball started in 1992 and, to this day, is one of the most popular lottery games in the United States. The prizes are pretty big, ranging from $4 to $1 million. And the jackpot has recently hit the world record of $2.04 billion. But it isn’t easy to win. According to Investopedia, the chances of winning a Powerball price (any prize) are 1 in 24.9. And when you do win a prize, there’s a 9 in 10 chance it will be a $4 prize. The chances of winning the jackpot? One in 292.2 million. That means you’re more likely to be struck by lightning than to win the Powerball jackpot. So, the odds of winning anything above $50,000 with Powerball are really really small.

Donation

And when you do win, you would think that the money would be used to treat yourself to something you’ve been wanting for a while now. But a man from South Carolina decided that when he won the $150,000 prize, he would use the money to help others. Even though his identity remains a secret and the charity that he shared the money with isn’t known either, lottery officials revealed that the winner donated the money to an upstate charity in South Carolina. He said that his win was ‘exhilarating’ and according to NBC15, he said: “I hit enough to make someone happy.”
