A stinky trash can is an annoying problem, because the smell is likely to spread and before you know it your entire home has this unpleasant smell. Luckily, there’s a very easy solution to this problem. All you need to do is follow this simple tip.
Your home and trash can will smell minty fresh once more!
Nasty smells
During the day we throw tons of things in the trash can: food scraps, empty packaging that still has some food stuck to it, and moist or liquid stuff. Especially during warm weather the trash can can be a true breeding ground for bacteria, so it’s no wonder the trash can doesn’t always smell very pleasant. Not throwing any waste into the trash can isn’t an option, of course, so combating the smell is the best solution. And also make sure you regularly take out the trash! If it’s at all possible, try to throw food scraps in the outside dumpster – this will make a difference already. Do you still have a stinky trash can?
Essential oils
Then you can try the following trick. All you need is a cotton ball and a little bit of essential oil. Essential oils are extracted from plant material and have a smell that’s characteristic to that particular plant, like lavender, peppermint or eucalyptus. You can buy these oils at any drug store. Drip a few drops of the oil onto the cotton ball and place this at the bottom of your trash can before putting a new bag into it. You should change the cotton ball about once every two weeks. You’ll notice the smell will be gone in no time at all!
