Step 2: Liquid laundry detergent
Is running the fresh stain under cold water not enough to remove it? Then try lightly (!) rubbing the stain with liquid laundry detergent combined with cold water. Don’t have any liquid laundry detergent at home? Then a little bit of dish soap will do as well. Leave this to soak for about five minutes, but make sure the soap doesn’t dry. Rinse with cold water. Is the coffee stain a little older already? Rub the liquid laundry detergent onto the stain as described above, but then drench the entire item of clothing in a bucket of water. Take it out every five minutes to carefully rub the stain so it loosens. Rinse properly.
Step 3: Vinegar
Has the laundry detergent not done enough to remove the stain? Take out a bottle of white vinegar. Mix a small scoop of washing powder with a little bit of white vinegar until it reaches a paste consistency. Apply this to the stain and rub it in with an old toothbrush. Rinse properly.
Step 4: Stain remover
Is all of this not working? Then the last thing to try is a stain remover in the form of a gel. Rub this onto both sides of the stain so it can penetrate the fibres of the fabric properly. Let it soak for five minutes and then wash normally.
Step 5: Check
The most important part of removing coffee stains (or any kind of stain) is to thoroughly check whether the stain is really gone before putting the item of clothing in the dryer or washing it on a high temperature. Hold the item of clothing up to the light to check whether the stain is completely gone. If this is the case, you can put the clothes in the laundry like you normally would. If the stain isn’t gone yet, you should repeat the entire process.
