We never thought about these cleaning mistakes before…
After we’ve cooked an elaborate meal, our kitchen looks like a true disaster zone. We roll up our sleeves and immediately get to work to make sure our kitchen looks presentable again as quickly as possible. Once that mountain of dirty dishes is gone, the stove is back to its shiny self and the glasses are squeaky clean once more, we contentedly set ourselves down on the sofa. But are we right to be satisfied or did we make some actual cleaning mistakes?
You might be ruining the taste of your food and drinks by making these cleaning mistakes.
Not cleaning the coffee machine (properly)
Do you own one of those coffee machines that grinds coffee beans? Then it’s important to clean it on a daily basis, especially when you drink a lot of coffee. Ground coffee beans can leave behind certain oils and those can affect the taste of your fresh coffee.
Putting the frying pan in the dishwasher
You should always clean your frying pan by hand. If you put it in the dishwasher, the protective layer on your pan will start to come off. And when this layer is gone, you will burn your food much quicker and no one likes the taste of burnt food!
Not cleaning the oven properly
You don’t really have to clean your oven as soon after every use, unless there’s a spill or stain. If you’ve prepared chicken, for example, and some of the fat or grease has spilled over? Then the cake you bake the next day won’t taste as good as you remember it did if you don’t clean the spill right away.
Not rinsing out plastic containers straight away
They’re absolutely ideal for storing leftovers or taking snacks with you to work: plastic containers. Especially because you can just pop them in the dishwasher. Have you taken the food out of the container? Rinse it immediately. If you put the container in the dishwasher and the dishwasher won’t run until a couple of hours later, the container will absorb the smell and taste of the food that was in it. The next time you use this same container, the food won’t taste as good as it would otherwise.
Putting the garlic press in the dishwasher
You should always wash your garlic press by hand after using it. If you put the garlic press in the dishwasher it won’t be cleaned properly. Tiny pieces of garlic will stay behind. The next time you use your garlic press, it might not work properly or you will push out the old pieces of garlic right into your food. That doesn’t sound too fresh…
