The magic of aluminium foil
If you want to clean your silverware, you could of course use expensive products to make them shine again. But every time you use silver polish to scrub your silverware, you’ll scrub off a layer of silver. There is an easy way to clean your silver things and it starts by putting a ball of aluminium foil in boiling water and adding baking soda.
What do you need to do?
- Step 1: Fill a pot with 1.5 to 2 liters of water and bring it up to a boil.
- Step 2: Tear off some aluminium foil and loosely bunch it up to a ball. Put the ball into the pot of water.
- Step 3: Add 150 g of baking soda to the water and stir it through.
- Step 4: Dip the cutlery you want to clean into the pan. Make sure the cutlery touches the aluminium ball; otherwise, the trick won’t work.
How long you have to let the cutlery soak in the water for depends on how dirty it is. Do make sure to use a pair of tongs to take the cutlery out of the pot and wear oven mitts if you put larger items into the pan. Silver is an excellent heat conductor, so you could easily burn your hands.
