Painful advertisements
From a young age, Meghan has seen it as her mission to fight injustice in the world and eliminate inequality. As an 11-year-old girl, she made herself heard on TV station Nickelodeon about sexism in commercials. “About one out of every three commercials has a message that could hurt someone,” the teen says in a 1993 video clip.
For example, she fell over an advertisement that said women fight dirty dishes. This was an advertisement for dish soap. Meghan wrote a letter to the creators of the ad (what handwriting! No wonder she later started working as a calligrapher and then made headlines, as after receiving this letter, the brand decided to modify their commercial. Instead of just women, all people were now fighting dirty dishes. Thus, Meg learned at an early age to speak out for change.
Letter writing
A video on YouTube shows a young Meghan who knows what she’s talking about. At the time, the teen urged others to write a letter as well. “If you see something on television and you disagree with it: write a letter,” she said. The program’s hostess remembers little Meghan well: “It was abundantly clear that this young woman had strong convictions. It didn’t matter that she was 11 years old. She believed in women, she believed in her own power. She was not afraid.”
Not only her fortitude, but also her looks have changed little in all these years. We definitely still recognize the Duchess of Sussex! Wondering what Meghan (and her handwriting) looked like at age 11? You can check it out in the video below.
Warm heart
Even today, Meghan still regularly shows her warm heart. In April, Harry and Meghan were in town for the Invictus Games. Once there, they were joined by Dutch participant Fenna Geugjes, plus Fenna’s brother and her wife Bertine with their infant daughter Liva. Photos show Bertine wrapping little Liva close to her in her vest.
Meghan also evidently noticed that the toddler does not stay very warm this way, and so, in a thoughtful gesture, she relinquished her (very expensive) coat to Bertine. Photos show the duchess helping the Dutch woman wrap her little one in the designer coat. Totally noblesse oblige of course, and we are left with some beautiful pictures. What a sweet action!
