All the world watched as Meghan Markle said yes to her Prince Harry in a veritable fairytale wedding. A day that went into the history books, but it was not the first time the American actress promised eternal fidelity. Previously, in fact, she was the wife of producer Trevor Engelson.

The couple reportedly met in a bar when Meghan was still at the beginning of her career. They were already engaged when she got her role in “Suits” and married when she was just starting to become a bit famous, in September 2011. A bridesmaid describes Meghan and Trevor’s wedding as “touching,” and the couple had written their own wedding vows.
However, it did not take long after saying yes for the first cracks to appear in the relationship. Meghan was getting more and more opportunities due to her fame, and seemed less and less interested in a future of role-house-home-at-home. The fact that she spent most of her time in Toronto for the filming of “Suits” and Trevor lived in L.A. didn’t help, neither did the fact that his career lagged behind hers. A cycling vacation in Vietnam, where she contracted food poisoning, was the last straw for her.
Married for eighteen months
After a marriage of some eighteen months, a divorce was filed. A decision that, according to Meghan’s biographer Andrew Morton, came from one side. For Trevor, Meghan’s requested divorce reportedly came completely out of the blue. Morton describes it as if Engelson “who carried his wife on his hands, felt more and more like a block on Markle’s leg. The relationship ended so abruptly that she returned her engagement ring and wedding band by registered mail.
