Oprah Winfrey
A far departure from the modest wood-frame home in Mississippi where she spent her early years, Oprah Winfrey now owns several breathtaking, multi-million dollar properties. With a net worth reportedly around $3.5 billion, the media tycoon, philanthropist, and actress has accumulated an impressive collection of real estate holdings, buying and selling some truly stunning properties over the years.
In 2001, Oprah was invited to a party at a charming estate nestled in the scenic village of Montecito, near Santa Barbara. Falling instantly in love with the peaceful 42-acre property, she persuaded the owners, Robert and Marlene Veloz, to sell her the estate even though it was not listed for sale. She promptly secured the property with a check for nearly $52 million.
Wow! Look at all this space!
Today, the now 70-acre Promised Land estate is valued at over $100 million, thanks to astute acquisitions of neighboring properties. The centerpiece is a stunning 23,000-square-foot neo-Georgian mansion surrounded by meticulously landscaped gardens featuring rose beds, terraces, and fountains.
This gorgeous estate is where Oprah and her long-term partner, Stedman Graham, spend their time. The home, adorned with memorabilia, books, and artwork collected over the years, also serves as the headquarters of Oprah’s vast business empire. She frequently shares glimpses of her life at home, often seen with her beloved dogs, on her Instagram page.
To create a more inviting and relaxed atmosphere, Oprah renovated the mansion, including a comprehensive overhaul of the dining room. The formerly striped wallpaper and ornate antique furniture were replaced with a soothing beige color scheme, a cream New England-style dresser, and cozy upholstered chairs.
The kitchen, being the heart of the home, is designed as a gathering spot for friends. Although the fireplace and pizza oven were removed to create more space, the rest of the kitchen remained untouched.
The mansion is complete with multiple living areas, a library, two home theaters, a wine cellar, an office, six bedrooms, and 14 bathrooms. She often posts snapshots of her beautifully laid out dining table with dishes prepared by her personal chef, Gregory Gourdet.
One of her posts from 2022 New Year’s Day brunch showcased a transition from the newly renovated dining room to a bright and airy sunroom, filled with large potted plants and decorated with shutter-style walls. The tables were topped with fresh fruits, pastries, and delicious buns.
Like many celebrities, Oprah appreciates a well-designed walk-in wardrobe. Given her frequent TV appearances and public engagements, she requires an expansive and organized wardrobe. The room, equipped with fitted cabinets, houses her extensive clothing collection and is often featured in her Instagram stories as she prepares for her global travels.
Reflecting her renowned love of books, there’s a touch of literature in almost every room, including her beautiful study. Alongside the sprawling neo-Georgian mansion, the estate features orchards, a koi pond, tennis courts, a swimming pool with a pool house, and a 4,000-square-foot Craftsman-style guest house with two bedrooms.
