Amanda Bynes was a staple of television in the nineties. She had her own show called The Amanda Show and roles in popular films such as She’s The Man and Hairspray. But how is the actress really doing? We sought it out!
Acting Career
Amanda was only ten years old when she began her TV career on the program All That. She was so popular that three years later she got her own program, The Amanda Show, which also featured teen favorites Drake Bell and Josh Peck. In 2000, she won a Kid’s Choice Award for All That and received no fewer than four nominations for The Amanda Show.
In 2002, Amanda made her big-screen debut in the films Big Fat Liar and What I Like About You. She later starred in the popular films She’s The Man, Hairspray and finally Easy A, among others. In 2010, the blonde decided to put a stop to her acting career. “When I don’t like something anymore, I quit,” she wrote on Twitter at the time. “I don’t like acting anymore, so I quit. I know 24 is young to retire, but you heard it from me now.”
From bad to worse
After her retirement in 2010, things quickly went downhill with the actress. For example, she struggled with alcohol and drug addiction. In 2012, she was arrested for driving under the influence and a year later was charged with recklessly endangering others and marijuana possession. Although the charges were dropped in 2014, she did receive three years of probation for driving under the influence.
Things went from bad to worse with Amanda. For example, she was arrested for setting fire in a stranger’s driveway. The former actress was admitted to a psychiatric hospital for 72 hours, and it was later revealed that she was struggling with bipolar disorder and manic depression. To protect Amanda from herself, she came under the guardianship of her mother, Lynn Organ. In February 2020, Amanda explained the situation to her Instagram followers and asked for their help. She felt she no longer needed a conservator. Nevertheless, the conservatorship was extended. Although things seemed to get better for Amanda for periods, she regularly faced major setbacks over the years. For example, she went to rehab several times and was admitted to a mental institution.
In early 2020, Amanda shocked her fans with a huge face tattoo. It involved a big heart on her cheek. That was later joined by some more facial decorations.
